Guiding and Providing
That’s Not Fair!”
Whether you look back on your childhood or have children of your own, life never seems to be fair when you’re young. Every little incident turns into a dramatic whirlwind of tears at the invalid “justice system”. It is the type of thing that makes you think back and laugh. Were the circumstances really unfair? Or was the childish mind unable to see outside of its selfish desires?
The Inconceivable Holiness of God
We have all been there. At our wits end on what to do in a certain circumstance, with seemingly no coherent answer or way out. It is a struggle of body, mind, and soul. Maybe you are struggling financially, seeking a medical diagnosis, or even having family problems. Whatever the case, you so desperately want to find an answer. It is in times like these that we are to
Marked by Love
“Inconceivable!” Yes, I just quoted one of the greatest movies of all time: The Princess Bride. Throughout the movie, Vizzini repetitively uses the word ‘inconceivable’ in a variety of contexts. Finally, Inigo Montoya confronts Vizzini saying, “You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.”
The Hardest Saying of Scriptures
One of the greatest parts of being a Christian is that we are marked by love: God’s love. The greatest love that has ever existed; The most vivid example, proving that “God so loved the world.”
What is Love? ...Don't Hurt Me, No More
I once listened to a message by elder Tom Patton, of Grace Community Church in California, where he claimed the phrase “God so loved the world” as the hardest saying of the Bible. How can this be true? God loves us, I mean, why wouldn’t He? How can God’s love be such a hard saying?
Powerless in the Midwest
Love. Such a simple word. Yet, at the very mention of love, someone may have instantly crept into your mind.
Fulfill Your Ministry
“So this is the generator?”
“Yeah, this is it.”
I glanced sideways at my friend Josh Brewer and went quiet for a moment. He raised his eyebrows and shrugged.
We both looked back at the white, trailer-sized piece of equipment and were quiet for another moment.
That Crippling Fear
The time is Now. Our world is full of individuals who will not listen to sound teaching. No matter how solid the evidence is, the free-thinkers of today will not recognize truth for what it is.
This Crazy Life
Do you ever feel like you are riding a Spiritual high? Like your faith is soaring, stronger than ever before? Then suddenly something comes along, knocking you down and hitting you harder than ever, like a punch to the gut. Trust me, we have all been there.
When You Just Can't Keep it Together
If you are like me, it is easy to get lost in the bubble of your crazy, hectic life. There are so many things to do: Work, sporting events, family time and don’t forget the need to eat and sleep! The older you get the faster life seems to go.
Power in Unity
“Hey man, check this out!” My friend Josh Brewer shook my hand and pulled me in for a hug. Josh is built like a Division One running back, so it was a bit like hugging a wall. With arms.
“Seriously,” he broke away excitedly, “so we had this meeting with a bunch of the churches in the city last night and it was AWESOME – apparently like thirty years ago they used to have tent revival meetings here every year, and they see this festival as an answer to prayer – like it might be God’s way of reaching the city again for Jesus.”
There is a certain power behind a team with a common mindset. Although there have been many great teams uniting under a shared goal, there is one team that is the greatest of them all; the team of believers united together through a relationship with Jesus Christ.
Make Faith > Your Doubts
Unity is important because it is one of the most basic functions of God. All three parts of the Trinity work together to allow us to be in Unity with Our Father. Once we accept Christ as our personal Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit enters us. It is through this that we are able to be in unity with Christ.
One Moment of Boldness
We see time and time again, individuals in the Bible who have lived by faith: Abraham, Moses, and Noah to name a few. They were all dealt unique circumstances that required faith. No matter the obstacle they faced, their automatic response was to trust God.
Double Dog Dared
While love and attraction may get us to do crazy, bold things, there is a great deal of faith that it takes, as well. Boldness requires faith and anyone who has studied the Bible should know that it is by faith through grace that we receive God’s boldness. As Christians, we should be humbled by His overwhelming grace and love.
Let Your Past Give You Courage
“I Double, Dr Doodle Dog Dare you to..” I can honestly say I used this phrase more than I should have growing up. Always daring, always walking the thin line of adventure. A quote I have appreciated by Charles Bukowski goes, “Can you remember who you were, before the world told you who you should be?”
Are You A Casual Christian?
My life has shown me one of the biggest tragedies in the Church. There is a wall we fail to see, or rather, we choose not to see. There is a wall that Satan has built to separate us from the other side. What is on the other side? You know the answer. It is the world: the prostitutes, addicts, thieves and liars. We don’t like to admit it, but we do so little for them. We love to talk about all we do for the poor, but what about those that are going to take our valued time and commitment? Are we willing to sacrifice our own cleanliness to reach those who are the most “unclean”?
The Worldly Scorn of God's Love
“How is everyone doing today?” As a speaker myself, I have began hundreds of talks using this as an opening statement. The typical response in most churches is applause or some sort of positive response. Even when the day is anything but positive, we learn to fake it and respond with a smile anyway. However, it occurred to me yesterday that I feel as though the Church is in some need of a few bad days.
Built For The Kingdom
One thing I know for sure is that we will never truly understand the love of God. The Pharisees back in Bible times didn’t get it and to this day we are still awestruck by the vast magnitude of His love.
When you think of the Kingdom of God, what comes to mind? A place such as Heaven? While Heaven is the eternal Kingdom of God, He has also built His Kingdom here on earth. This earthly Kingdom is built of His people, Christians, you and I. When it comes to the earthly Kingdom, a common misconception is that it is full of perfect people, but this couldn’t be further from the truth.
