Welcome to the Prayer Team!
Thank you for serving in this critical role! Prayer is a vital part of the festival as many will be encountering Jesus and are in need of personal ministry. The vision of this ministry is to encourage all who need prayer by providing a multi denominational, safe environment to minister healing, hope, peace, and joy to all those who need it. As such, this is not a place of council, inner healing, deliverance ministry, or life coaching. All of these have a place, but generally are more relationship based or professional and require a more in-depth time. Your main responsibility is to just be available in the tent when people come in for prayer and when there are altar calls throughout the day.
things for you to do, know and to keep in mind:
- Please sign in on the check-in form and confirm the time that you will be serving.
- There is a spot toward the back of the tent for you to keep your personal belongings.
- There is a cooler for you to enjoy a cold water when you need it. We also have some mints and a few snacks. (If you meet with someone that is really thirsty or hungry, feel free to give them something from this supply.)
- Please take and keep these with you:
- Check out the Gospel presentation from our website here: https://lifelight.org/know-god
- Take and keep a Prayer Tent Report Card, clipboard, and pen with you.
- Use LifeLight Gospel Squares (These lead people to the online Gospel presentation. Take a handful and have the page open on your phone when leading someone to Christ.)
- Prayer tent badge and vest (if available) to identify yourself as a prayer tent volunteer.
- Please be aware of the altar call times. They will be updated on the whiteboard as to when we will need to be available as people respond to the Gospel.
- If someone asks you for money or for you to buy them food, please do not do so. Again, we will have some snacks and water for them in the prayer tent.
- Please keep track of how many people you have the privilege to minister to and the outcome (made a decision for Christ, etc). We would LOVE to record some of these to share with others, so PLEASE let Dave Moe know if you meet anyone that would be willing to share! At the end of your shift, please mark these totals by your name on the check-in form.
prayer points to know:
- Ask people if they would like prayer as not all who are in the tent are there for ministry, as some come for Bibles, resource sheets, and tracts that you may offer to them.
- If meeting and praying with a person, please walk them through the “Prayer Tent Report Card” and have them give you the answers for you to fill in. (Write down only as much as they are willing to provide, but the more, the better in order for us to offer follow-up later.)
- Do not give corrective or life directional prophetic words. Simple encouragement and affirmation goes a long way!
- Do not pray “cross gender” by yourself. Take a prayer partner with you when ministering to the opposite sex.
- If you find you are ministering to someone that has physiological issues or any type of suicidal thoughts, please do not try to handle this on your own and direct the person to a prayer tent leader (Dave or Judy) or a pastor on duty in the tent at the time.
- Please place completed cards in the container provided in the Prayer Tent.
Altar Call Procedure
- Prepare yourself before you minister. Understand your need for God. Humble yourself before God, commit yourself to Him, and ask Him to fill you with His Spirit and to use you and flow through you to minister to others.
- Listen closely for instructions when the festival speaker asks you to come. MEET AT ONE OF THE LIGHTED CROSSES, either close to the stage or further out front past the Prayer Tent. Speakers often say that there will be people who will pray with you, without specifically asking for Prayer Partners to come forward. Be ready to go to a CROSS when the altar call is given and people come. If prayer people are referred to, they are talking about you. So come to a CROSS and pray with people.
- Tell the attendee your name and ask them their name. Remember what they tell you so you can pray for them by name. If you forget, just ask them again when you are about to pray. Fill out the report card as you talk with the person if possible.
- Never assume you know what someone has come forward for. Always ask them, “How can I pray for you?” Or What is it that you are wanting God to do for you?”
- If you find you are ministering to someone that has physiological issues or any type of suicidal thoughts, please do not try to handle this on your own and direct the person to a pastor or prayer tent leader.
- Guys with Guys – Girls with Girls is the general rule – or couples pray together. Praying with the opposite sex can make people feel quite uncomfortable even when motives are pure. If you feel something is off, trust your spirit and ask someone else to join you.
- Open the link of the Gospel Square (GS) and lead someone to Christ if they are ready. Please give them a GS to keep.
- When you are done praying with that person, see if there are others. Once you are done praying with people, make sure to place completed cards in the container in the prayer tent.
Thank you for doing your part in this eternal investment!
